How We Quote Mobile Repairs: Transparent Pricing Explained

FlexFix Team

One of the biggest frustrations with auto repair is surprise costs. You drop your car off with a $400 quote and pick it up with an $800 bill. We do things differently. Here is how our quoting process works.

Step 1: You describe the problem You call, text, or message us with your vehicle info and what is going on. The more detail you provide, the more accurate our initial assessment.

Step 2: We provide an estimate range For common services (oil change, brake job, battery replacement), we can often give a firm price or narrow range over the phone because we know the parts cost and labor time for your vehicle.

For diagnostic situations (check engine light, strange noise, intermittent problem), we explain that the $60 diagnostic determines the actual issue and repair cost. We do not guess a repair price without knowing the problem.

Step 3: We diagnose on-site For diagnostic jobs, we arrive, perform the assessment, and then present findings and a complete repair quote. You know the problem, the solution, and the total cost before we turn a single wrench on the repair.

Step 4: You approve or decline No work begins without your explicit approval of the quoted price. If you need time to think about it, that is fine. If you want to get a second opinion, that is fine too. The diagnostic fee covers our time and expertise in identifying the problem.

Step 5: The price you approved is the price you pay If we quoted $350, you pay $350. Period.

When the price might change: Occasionally, during a repair, we discover additional damage that was not visible during diagnosis — for example, a brake caliper that was functional during inspection but found to be seized once we disassembled the brakes. In these cases, we stop work and call you. We explain what we found, provide the additional cost, and get your approval before continuing. We never proceed with additional work without your say-so.

What is included in our quotes: Parts, labor, and applicable tax. No shop fees, no environmental fees, no miscellaneous charges. The quote is the total.

Diagnostic fee credit: Our $60 diagnostic applies toward the repair if you approve the work. So a $300 repair costs $240 additional after the diagnostic credit, for a total of $300 — not $360.

We believe transparent pricing builds trust, and trust is the foundation of a mobile mechanic business. You are inviting us to your home — the least we can do is be honest about the cost.
