Booking & service basics
Do you come to my location?
Yes. FlexFix is a mobile mechanic service—we travel to your home, workplace, or many roadside situations. Availability depends on distance and job type; call or message to confirm.
How do I book an appointment?
Call or text the number on this site, message our Facebook page, or reach out through Marketplace listings. We will confirm your vehicle, issue, and address.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept common methods including cash and major cards where equipment is available—confirm when you book.
Do you offer emergency or same-day service?
We prioritize urgent situations when capacity allows. Describe your symptoms and location and we will advise timing.
What vehicles do you work on?
Most passenger cars and light trucks. Share your year, make, and model for specialty or heavy-duty requests.
Can you get parts the same day?
Often yes for common parts; some items may require ordering. We source quality parts and keep you informed on timing and price before work proceeds.
Mobile service experience
What is a mobile mechanic?
A mobile mechanic is an ASE-certified technician who brings scan tools, lifts, and core equipment to your home, office, parking lot, or roadside—so you skip the tow and the service lane queue when the job can be done on-site.
What happens if it rains or the vehicle is in a parking lot?
We routinely work from driveways, carports, and parking lots. If weather is unsafe or would damage tools or electronics, we reschedule or coordinate door pick-up / drop-off when that fits your situation.
How does the $60 diagnostic fee work?
The $60 covers a professional, tool-based assessment—not guesswork. If you approve the quoted repair, that $60 is credited toward the labor for that job, so you are paying for a defined outcome, not a mystery add-on.
Do I need to be present for the repair?
No. Many customers use contactless service: keys in a agreed secure location, updates by phone or text, and a digital summary when the work is complete—provided the property rules and job type allow it.
Are your parts and labor warranted?
Qualifying repairs include a 12-month / 12,000-mile limited warranty on parts we supply and our workmanship (whichever comes first), with industry-standard exclusions—see our About page for full warranty language.
Are mobile mechanics cheaper than traditional shops?
Often yes for comparable labor on jobs we can do on-site—without the same rent and fixed front-office overhead as a big brick-and-mortar shop, and without a tow when you are not broken down at a facility. Every vehicle is different; we quote clearly after a $60 mobile diagnostic and only move forward with work you approve.
How much does it cost to have you come look at my car?
We charge a flat $60 mobile diagnostic in the areas we serve (Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, and Greater Houston). That covers professional inspection and testing—not a guess. If you approve the quoted repair, the $60 is credited toward labor on that job.
Should I ignore my check engine light if the car feels fine?
We would not ignore it. The light means the computer stored a fault—sometimes it is minor (like a loose fuel cap), sometimes it is a sensor or misfire that can damage the catalytic converter or engine if it gets worse. A $60 on-site diagnostic tells you what you are dealing with before it becomes a bigger bill or a tow.
Service areas & scheduling
What areas do you serve?
We serve Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, and the greater Houston metro area. If you are outside those zones, call or text us—we may still be able to reach you depending on the job.
How long does a typical repair take?
It depends on the job. A diagnostic takes about 30–60 minutes. Common repairs like brake pads, alternators, or starters are usually done in 1–3 hours. We give you a time estimate before we start so you can plan your day.
Can you work on my car at my apartment complex?
Yes, as long as the complex allows it and we have safe, level access to the vehicle. Some complexes have rules about outside service—check with management, and we will coordinate a nearby meetup if needed.
Do you do oil changes?
Yes. We bring quality oil and filters to your location. Conventional, synthetic blend, and full synthetic options are available. We also handle used oil responsibly in line with EPA expectations.
Can you replace my battery?
Yes. We test the battery and charging system on-site, and if it needs replacement, we carry common sizes or source one quickly. The old battery is removed and recycled properly.
Do you work on weekends?
We are available Monday through Saturday by appointment. Sunday availability is limited but possible for emergency situations—contact us and we will let you know.
What if you cannot fix my car on-site?
If the repair requires a shop bay, lift, or specialized equipment we do not carry, we will let you know upfront and help coordinate next steps—whether that is a tow to a trusted facility or a door pick-up arrangement.
Common repairs & diagnostics
Do you offer pre-purchase inspections?
Yes. Before you buy a used car, we can meet you at the seller's location and perform a thorough multi-point inspection—mechanical, electrical, and visual—so you know what you are getting before you commit.
Can you diagnose why my car will not start?
Yes. No-start conditions are one of our most common calls. We test the battery, starter, fuel system, ignition, and computer to pinpoint the cause—then quote the fix before proceeding.
How do I know if I need new brakes?
Warning signs include squealing or grinding noises, a soft or pulsating brake pedal, the car pulling to one side when braking, or a brake warning light on the dash. We can inspect pads, rotors, and fluid on-site.
Do you handle AC repairs?
We diagnose and recharge AC systems on-site. For more complex AC work like compressor or evaporator replacement, we evaluate whether mobile conditions allow it and let you know before starting.
Can I supply my own parts?
You can, but our warranty only covers parts we source. Customer-supplied parts carry no warranty from us on the part itself—only on the labor we perform. We are happy to discuss sourcing options.
What certifications does your mechanic have?
Our lead technician holds ASE certification with strength in electrical diagnostics and suspension, plus training rooted in official Ford Customer Service Division programs—the same rigor as a Lincoln-Ford service lane.
Do you work on diesel vehicles?
We handle many diesel diagnostics and common repairs on light-duty diesel trucks and SUVs. Share your vehicle details and the issue, and we will confirm whether we can service it on-site.
What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket parts?
OEM parts are made by or for the vehicle manufacturer—exact fit and spec. Aftermarket parts are made by third parties and can range from budget to premium quality. We help you choose based on your budget and needs.
Can you reset my check engine light?
We can clear the code, but clearing without fixing the underlying issue usually means the light comes back. Our $60 diagnostic identifies the root cause first, then we clear codes after the repair is complete.
Do you do tune-ups?
Yes. A modern tune-up typically includes spark plugs, ignition coils if needed, air filter, and a scan for pending codes. We also inspect belts, hoses, and fluid levels as part of the visit.
My car is overheating—can you help?
Yes. Overheating calls are common in Houston heat. We check the coolant level, thermostat, water pump, radiator, hoses, and cooling fans. Do not drive an overheating car—pull over safely and call us.
Can you replace a starter or alternator?
Yes. Starters and alternators are among our most common mobile repairs. We test the entire starting and charging system before replacing anything to make sure we fix the actual problem.
Do you work on hybrid or electric vehicles?
We handle many hybrid maintenance tasks—brakes, suspension, 12V batteries, and diagnostics. Full EV high-voltage work typically requires specialized facilities. Contact us with your vehicle details.
What if I need a tow?
We do not provide towing, but we can recommend trusted tow services in the Houston area. Often our mobile service eliminates the need for a tow entirely—that is the point of coming to you.
Can you fix a coolant leak?
Yes. We pressure-test the cooling system to find the source—hose, clamp, water pump, radiator, or gasket. Once identified, we quote the repair and only proceed with your approval.
Do you replace serpentine belts?
Yes. A worn or cracked serpentine belt can cause squealing, loss of power steering, and AC failure. We inspect the belt and tensioner and replace them on-site when needed.
Can you do a brake fluid flush?
Yes. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can affect braking performance. We bleed and replace the fluid with fresh DOT-spec fluid on-site.
How do I know if my suspension is bad?
Common signs include clunking over bumps, excessive bouncing, uneven tire wear, the vehicle pulling to one side, or a rough ride. We inspect shocks, struts, ball joints, and bushings on-site.
Do you replace headlights and taillights?
Yes. We replace bulbs, restore cloudy lenses, and install upgraded lighting when compatible. Properly working lights are a safety essential—especially for Houston night driving.
Can you fix a power steering issue?
Yes. We diagnose power steering groans, leaks, and stiff steering—checking the pump, rack, fluid level, and hoses. Most power steering repairs can be done on-site.
What does a flashing check engine light mean?
A flashing check engine light usually indicates an active misfire that can damage the catalytic converter. Reduce speed, avoid hard acceleration, and call us for a diagnostic as soon as possible.
Specialized services
Do you service fleet vehicles or small businesses?
Yes. We work with small fleets, delivery vehicles, and business owners who cannot afford downtime. We can schedule recurring maintenance or handle on-call repairs at your lot or facility.
Can you help if my car stalls while driving?
Yes. Stalling can be caused by fuel delivery issues, ignition problems, sensor failures, or electrical faults. Pull over safely, and we will come diagnose the root cause on-site.
Do you replace water pumps?
Yes, on most vehicles. The water pump is critical for engine cooling—if it is leaking or failing, the engine can overheat quickly. We test and replace it on-site when access allows.
What is the TPMS light and should I worry?
TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. The light means one or more tires are low. Check pressures when tires are cold and inflate to the spec on the driver door sticker. If it stays on, a sensor may need service.
Can you diagnose electrical problems?
Yes—electrical diagnostics is one of our strongest areas. We trace wiring, test circuits, check grounds, and use scan tools to find parasitic drains, short circuits, and sensor failures.
Do you replace fuel pumps?
Yes, on most vehicles where mobile access allows. Fuel pump failure often causes no-start or stalling conditions. We test fuel pressure first to confirm the pump is the issue before replacing it.
How often should I change my oil?
It depends on your vehicle and oil type. Most modern cars with synthetic oil go 5,000–7,500 miles between changes. Check your owner's manual or ask us—we will recommend the right interval for your driving conditions.
Can you fix a car that shakes at highway speed?
Yes. Vibrations at speed are commonly caused by unbalanced tires, worn suspension components, warped brake rotors, or drivetrain issues. We diagnose the source and quote the fix.
Do you do radiator repairs or replacement?
Yes. If your radiator is leaking, clogged, or damaged, we can replace it on-site for most vehicles. We pressure-test the system before and after to confirm the repair is solid.
What if my car smells like burning rubber or rotten eggs?
Burning rubber can mean a slipping belt or hot brake. Rotten eggs (sulfur) often points to a catalytic converter issue. Either way, do not ignore unusual smells—call us for a diagnostic.
Can you replace ignition coils and spark plugs?
Yes. Worn spark plugs or failing coils cause misfires, rough idle, and poor fuel economy. We test each cylinder and replace only what is needed—no unnecessary parts.
Do you handle transmission issues?
We diagnose transmission problems—hard shifts, slipping, fluid leaks, and warning lights. Fluid changes and minor repairs can be done on-site; internal rebuilds require a shop facility.
Pricing, parts & preparation
Can you come to my workplace during business hours?
Yes. Many of our customers schedule service at their office parking lot so they do not lose a workday. We work quietly and clean up after the job—just confirm your employer or property allows outside service.
What is a parasitic battery drain?
A parasitic drain is when something in the car keeps drawing power after the engine is off—killing the battery overnight or over a few days. We use a multimeter to test each circuit and find the source.
Do you work in the evening or after hours?
Our standard hours are Monday–Saturday by appointment. We do our best to accommodate late-afternoon and early-evening requests. For after-hours emergencies, call or text and we will advise.
Can you replace a catalytic converter?
We diagnose catalytic converter issues and can replace them on most vehicles where mobile access allows. We test upstream and downstream O2 sensors to confirm the converter is the root cause.
How do I prepare for a mobile mechanic visit?
Park on a flat, level surface with enough room to open the hood and access the sides. If possible, leave the area well-lit and clear of obstacles. Let us know about any gate codes or parking restrictions.
Do you offer any discounts for repeat customers?
We value loyalty and aim to keep our pricing fair for everyone. Repeat customers benefit from our familiarity with their vehicle history, which can speed up diagnosis and reduce labor time.
Can you fix a window that will not go up or down?
Yes. Power window failures are usually caused by a bad motor, regulator, or switch. We test the electrical circuit and replace the failed component on-site.
What should I do if my car is leaking oil?
Note the color (dark brown/black = engine oil) and where the puddle forms. Do not ignore it—low oil can cause engine damage. Call us for a diagnostic; we will find the source and quote the repair.
Do you install aftermarket accessories?
We focus on mechanical and electrical repair rather than cosmetic or accessory installs. However, if the item is safety-related (like lighting upgrades), ask us—we may be able to help.
How do I get a quote before you come out?
Call or text us with your year, make, model, mileage, and a description of the problem. We can give a ballpark estimate over the phone, but a precise quote requires the $60 on-site diagnostic to confirm the root cause.
