Emergency Roadside Mechanic in Houston: What We Can Fix on the Spot

FlexFix Team

Your car broke down on the side of the road in Houston. You are stressed, it is hot, and you need help fast. Before calling a tow truck, consider what a mobile mechanic can fix right where you are.

Repairs commonly done roadside

Dead battery — jump start or on-the-spot replacement. A mobile mechanic carries batteries for common vehicles and can have you running in 20 to 30 minutes.

Failed starter — if there is safe space to work, starter replacement can be done roadside on many vehicles. The job takes one to three hours depending on accessibility.

Serpentine belt failure — a broken belt leaves you without power steering, charging, and possibly water pump. Belt replacement is quick once the correct belt is on hand.

Overheating from a burst hose — a coolant hose replacement can be done roadside with the engine cooled down. We carry common hose sizes and coolant.

Flat tire with a stuck spare — if the spare is seized from rust or the jack is missing, we can help get it changed safely.

Fuel pump relay or fuse failure — sometimes a no-start condition is caused by a simple $5 relay or fuse. Diagnosis on-site can save a $200 tow.

When to tow instead

Some breakdowns are not safe or practical to repair on the roadside. If the vehicle is on a busy highway with no shoulder, if the repair requires the vehicle to be lifted, if an internal engine or transmission failure has occurred, or if the vehicle cannot be made safe to drive after the repair — a tow to a facility is the right call. We will tell you honestly if the situation calls for a tow rather than an on-site repair.

How to stay safe while waiting

Move as far off the road as possible. Turn on hazard lights. If you have reflective triangles or flares, place them behind the vehicle. Stay inside the vehicle if you are on a highway. In Houston summer heat, crack windows and find shade if possible — heat exhaustion is a real risk.
