What Happens During a $60 Mobile Diagnostic Visit

FlexFix Team

You called a mobile mechanic for a $60 diagnostic. What exactly happens during that visit, and what do you get for your money? Here is a detailed walkthrough of the FlexFix diagnostic process.

Before the visit

When you call or text, we ask about symptoms, warning lights, noises, and any recent changes in vehicle behavior. This helps us prepare the right tools and reference materials for your specific vehicle. We confirm your location, parking situation, and a time that works for you.

Arrival and initial assessment

We arrive at your location in Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, or Houston with a professional tool set and diagnostic equipment. The first step is a conversation — we listen to your description of the problem, when it started, and any patterns you have noticed. This information guides the diagnostic process.

OBD-II scan and live data

We connect a professional scan tool (not a $20 code reader) to your vehicle's diagnostic port. This reads any stored trouble codes, pending codes, and freeze-frame data that shows the exact conditions when the code was set. We also review live sensor data — fuel trims, oxygen sensor readings, coolant temperature, engine load, and more. This data tells us what the engine is actually doing, not just what code is stored.

Visual and hands-on inspection

Depending on the symptoms, we inspect relevant components. For a check engine light, that might include spark plugs, ignition coils, vacuum hoses, and the air intake system. For a noise concern, we check suspension components, belts, pulleys, and exhaust. For a brake issue, we measure pad thickness and inspect rotors, calipers, and brake lines.

Diagnosis and explanation

We explain what we found in plain language — not mechanic jargon. You see the data on the scan tool screen. If parts are worn, we show you the physical evidence. We explain what needs to be repaired now, what can wait, and what is normal for your vehicle's age and mileage.

Written quote

If repair is needed, you receive a verbal quote with parts and labor broken down. The $60 diagnostic fee applies as a credit toward the labor on the repair you approve. There is no pressure to approve work on the spot — you can think about it, get a second opinion, or schedule the repair for another day.

If no repair is needed (for example, the check engine light was caused by a loose gas cap), you pay only the $60 diagnostic fee and drive away with peace of mind.
