Step 1: Symptom interview (5-10 minutes) Before we touch a scanner, we ask you what's happening. When did it start? Is it worse when cold or hot? At idle or highway speed? Any recent work done? Your answers guide the diagnosis more than any code reader.

Step 2: OBD-II scan and live data review We plug in professional-grade scan tools (not the $20 code readers from Amazon). We pull stored codes, pending codes, and freeze frame data — the snapshot of what was happening when the code set. Then we look at live data: fuel trims, sensor readings, misfire counts, coolant temp, and more.

Step 3: Visual and physical inspection Codes are clues, not answers. We pop the hood and look at the basics: fluid levels, belt condition, hose integrity, battery terminals, air filter, and any obvious leaks or damage. We'll check under the vehicle if safe to do so.
