How We Handle Used Oil and Filters: Responsible Mobile Mechanic Practices

FlexFix Team

One question we get from environmentally conscious customers: "What do you do with the used oil and old parts?" It is a fair question, and we want you to know the answer.

Used oil disposal: Every oil change produces 4-8 quarts of used motor oil. We collect it in sealed containers and transport it to authorized recycling facilities. Used oil is a valuable recyclable resource — one gallon of used oil can be re-refined into 2.5 quarts of new motor oil. We never dump, pour down drains, or dispose of oil improperly.

Oil filters: Used oil filters contain residual oil and metals. We drain them, store them in sealed containers, and deliver them to recycling facilities that recover the oil and recycle the metal housing.

Coolant: Used coolant (antifreeze) is toxic to animals and the environment. We collect it during coolant flushes and bring it to facilities that accept it for recycling or proper disposal.

Brake fluid: Brake fluid is hygroscopic and picks up moisture and contaminants over time. Used brake fluid is collected and disposed of through proper chemical waste channels.

Old parts: Brake pads, rotors, belts, filters, and other replaced components are collected and disposed of appropriately. Metal parts go to metal recycling. We do not leave old parts at your location unless you specifically want them.

Your driveway: We use catch pans and absorbent materials during all fluid services. If any fluid contacts your driveway, we clean it immediately. Your property should look the same (or better) after we leave as it did before we arrived.

EPA guidelines: FlexFix follows responsible handling of used oil and filters in line with EPA expectations for mobile operators. We maintain records of our recycling practices and use approved containers for transport.

Why this matters: Improper oil disposal contaminates groundwater, harms wildlife, and violates environmental regulations. One quart of motor oil can contaminate 250,000 gallons of drinking water. As mobile mechanics who work in residential driveways, parking lots, and near storm drains, we take this responsibility seriously.

When you choose FlexFix, you are choosing a mobile mechanic who does the job right — including what happens after the job is done.
